《野性的呼唤》,又名《荒野的呼唤》（The Call of the Wild）,是美国作家杰克·伦敦创作的中篇小说.作品讲述巴克原来是米勒法官家的一只爱犬,经过了文明的教化,一直生活在美国南部加州一个温暖的山谷里.后被卖到美国北部寒冷偏远,盛产黄金的阿拉斯加,成了一只拉雪橇的狗.

巴克（Buck）是一只大狗，在1890年代，在加利福尼亚舒适的庄园里过着美好的生活。但后来他被绑架并运送到加拿大的Yukon地区，成为淘金热期间的雪橇犬。 起初，他试图反抗，但很快就屈服了。当他经历了一系列的主人后，发现他的狼祖先的古老本能正在他体内被唤醒，使他能够在北方残酷的荒野中生存和成功。 这个故事有时是残酷的，但最终却是有关内在尊严，生存以及如何成为领导者的令人振奋的故事。

杰克·伦敦（1876-1916）,美国现实主义作家.出生于美国加利福尼亚旧金山的一个破产农民家庭.他从小参加体力劳动,受尽生活折磨.后来,他做过童工,工人和水手,也当过劫取牡蛎的'蚝贼'.

1893年由于美国发生严重经济危机,杰克·伦敦以无业游民罪被捕.1897年他到阿拉斯加淘金.结果一粒金子也没淘到却得了坏血病.

从此,他开始了文学创作生涯,并于1900年发表统称为'北方故事'的系列小说.他从1900年起连续发表的许多中短篇小说,因其作品大都带有浓厚的社会主义色彩,因此有人认为他是宣扬社会主义的作家,但也有人认为他是表现个人主义与民众哲学的自然主义作家.40岁时,他以自杀结束了自己的生命.

他在自己16年的创作生涯中留下了50部著作,其中长篇小说19部.他的作品不仅在美国本土广为流传,而且受到世界各国人民的欢迎,是最受中国读者欢迎的外国作家之一.代表作有《马丁·伊登》《野性的呼唤》《热爱生命》（短篇小说）《白牙》（又译作《雪虎》）等.
